CMET is located in the city of Lucknow, which is the political and administrative capital of the most populous state of India i.e. Uttar Pradesh. Lucknow is also known as the Golden City of the East, inhabited by over 3 million people. It is about 500 kilometers from Delhi, the national capital of India and is well connected to it through road and railways.

Known for its tradition, culture and cuisine Lucknow has emerged as an important city of North India. The city experiences warm cool, dry winters from December to February and dry, hot summers from April to June. The rainy season is from mid-June to mid-September.

In order to bring Maritime education to the hinterland Centre for Maritime Education and Training (CMET) was established .CMET prides itself in teaching you what you need to know to be a competent Sailor/ Nautical Officer / Engineer Officer.  Institute was co- founded by Noor Ashraf Beg and Capt Noor Iman Beg in 1999 and was started by the name of Indian Institute of Maritime Studies, Lucknow.The foundation stone of the institute was laid down by Capt H. Subramanian, then Principal, LBSCAMSAR, Mumbai on the 10th of April 1999 at its present place.

At the behest of DG Shipping, the name was changed to “CENTRE FOR MARITIME EDUCATION & TRAINING” in the year 2003.

The institute started with four STCW basic courses, namely PSSR, PST, EFA and FPFF. It was the first institute in the whole of North India to start Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting  (FPFF) and Advanced Fire Fighting (AFF) courses and it is still the only institute in the North of India providing these courses.

CMET is situated off Lucknow-Delhi national Highway (N.H.24). The campus area is 4 acres with full facilities for indoor and outdoor activities, parade ground etc. The building is 18000 sq ft. of modern architecture. The classrooms are fully equipped with all the latest teaching aids like power point presentations, Computer Based Training (CBT’s), Overhead projectors, and Television sets.

Residential facilities

The institute is providing excellent accommodation facilities, state-of- the-art kitchen serving nutritious and hygienic food. CMET campus has a large swimming pool (85x65x11 ft.) for swimming and water related exercises/drills. CMET is having 55 rooms with modern architecture and all rooms are fully air conditioned .


CMET prides itself on having the largest and highest mock-up for Fire Fighting exercises in its campus, built for conducting courses like AFF and FPFF in a realistic environment.


CMET, Lucknow the only institute in the entire North India to offer following prestigious courses under one roof which are not being offered by any other Institute in this part of the country . In total CMET is offering 25 DGS approved courses at present. More courses are going to start in the coming months. This keeps CMET as the leader in this field.

up-gradation courses as per STCW 2010

With the advent and implementation of STCW 2010 Regulations, CMET has made required changes in the training curriculum and has geared up to start the following up-gradation courses :

  • Advanced Fire Fighting
  • Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats
  • Personal Survival Techniques
  • Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting

As per DGS Circular no. 3 of STCW 2010, CMET has made the necessary changes and installed the required equipments to issue STCW 2010 based Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting training course. CMET is the first to have complied with the DGS Circular in this regard. 

Presently CMET is offering 24 DGS approved STCW courses . The details of all the courses are available separately in Schedule of courses .

We are going to start DG Shipping approved / ILO approved Medical Examination facilities at CMET. This will provide a great help for the medical check-up of fresher’s as well as the seafarers on a regular basis. Presently one has to go to Delhi and other places to avail the same facility as it is not available anywhere in the entire state of Uttar Pradesh.

CMET has a commitment to quality training. The Institute is ISO 9001:2000 Quality certified by Lloyd’s and rated as a ‘Good institute’ by CRISIL Grading. All the courses offered at CMET are approved by the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India. CMET is established in more than 3.5 acres of land in the city of Lucknow. It is the only institute in the entire North of India to offer prestigious courses like Advanced Fire Fighting and   PSCRB. Apart from AFF, CMET is offering about 24 Basic and Advanced Modular Courses, Competency courses, Simulator based courses and Value added courses.

CMET is headed by Capt. Noor Iman Beg, Ex-Rajendra having more than 30 years of sailing experience with the best companies in the shipping industry.

The faculty consists of highly qualified members with a vast shipping/professional as well as teaching experience.
